Physical Therapy

The Physical Therapy program seeks to assist each student in reaching their physical potential. Intervention includes developmental stimulation, exercises for range of motion, strength and endurance, weight-bearing skills ( including joint stability and ambulation), and coordination skills. Each student is individually evaluated and a program is developed to match their needs and abilities. Therapy includes individual and group sessions, as well as consultation and classroom carryover activities. The P.T. department provides additional activities to encourage interaction, sport skills, and team-work.

The Physical therapy staff communicates with the classroom and other therapies to provide a coordinated program and be aware of needs or problems. It also is the means to instruct staff in proper use of equipment, proper positioning of students and safe handling techniques. The physical therapists maintain communication with parents to suggest activities for home, help address needs and concerns, and coordinate therapy with other areas of medical care. P. T., along with O. T., recommends and helps coordinate ordering equipment( such as wheelchair, braces, bath chairs, etc.) for individual students
