The speech-language specialist is responsible for
the evaluation, planning, and treatment of all speech, language,
voice and fluency disorders, as is the case in all schools. We
work closely with the teachers to plan and implement remediation
in those areas of greatest need to allow maximum integration of
the Core Curriculum Content Standards. Here at the Crescent Hill Academy,
many of our students require feeding therapy intervention,
Augmentative Communication Evaluations and Training, and Assistive
Technology Evaluations and Training. This also involves the
prescription of specific devices, finding and applying to funding
sources, and training the student and teacher on the specific
equipment (communication systems, laptops, access devices, etc.)
once it arrives. Consultation with the teacher and parents helps
to facilitate the carryover of learned skills to all areas of the
child's environment.
